The fourth game of the season saw the Youth Team travel to Bradford City. York went into the game top of the table and yet to concede a league goal this season. York once again started the game very brightly and put a lot of pressure on the Bradford defence early on. Some good work from Reece Kelly and Rob Moncur gave Vinnie Dhesi a chance which was saved well, down low, by the Bradford keeper. A well worked corner from Arran Hudson and Moncur gave Tom Platt a chance which was put wide. York were on top after the first 20 minutes but could not find the killer ball or opening goal. Bradford started to come into the game and the left midfielder blazed a shot over the bar and York keeper Ben White also saved a Bradford shot well. Then against the run of play, Bradford opened the scoring. The ball was lost by York in the Bradford half and a long ball in behind after a good run from the Bradford striker was finished off well into the left of the goal.

York responded well and continued to make chances. York left back Tom Allan made a very strong run down the left, beating 4 men and shooting on target. The shot was again saved well by the Bradford keeper. As half time was approaching, York created their best chance of the half. Kelly chased the ball down into the right back position and won it well off the defender. The ball was picked up by Tom Platt who drove down the right and pulled the ball back to Dhesi on the edge of the box. His first time shot inadvertently found Tom Owen infront of the Bradford goal, however his shot was straight at the keeper who did very well to turn it over the bar. The half came to a close with York trailing 1-0, but they should have definitely been in front.

York again started the second half well and again created shooting opportunities that were not taken. However on the hour mark, York finally got back on level terms. Allan won the ball well off his right winger just inside the Bradford half and drove down the left. Another great run gave him a shooting opportunity which he took advantage of. With no hesitation he struck the ball hard and low into the bottom right of the goal. It was a great individual goal from the left back.

Now at 1-1 York pushed for the winning goal, however this left them short at the back and Bradford made them pay. The ball broke for the striker down the right, just inside the box. An attempted cross was miscued and White could not reach the ball as it sailed into the top corner of the net. York pushed for an equalising goal and as the game reached full time, Allen went on another strong run down the left. He beat his man and drove into the box. The Bradford centre back came sliding in and didn't make contact with the ball. Allan went down under the challenge but the referee waved away the appeals. That proved to be the last opportunity for York to equalise and they could not break down the Bradford defence. The game finished 2-1, York had the majority of the chances but failed to hit the target on a number of occasions and in the end they payed the price, but know that there were many positives in the display.

The Youth team face Darlington at home next week and will be looking to get back to winning ways and back to the top of the table.
