Saturday 13th August saw the Youth Team travel to last year's league winners Chesterfield in their second match of the new league season. York started with an unchanged team from last week's win against Hartlepool. York looked very sharp and lively from the off and completely dominated the first half. The Chesterfield defence were under constant pressure and York were creating numerous chances. Vinnie Dhesi went close with a right footed effort and York had a very strong penalty appeal turned down when Reece Kelly's shot seemed to hit an outstretched arm inside the box. York were dominating in all areas of the pitch and the defence again seemed very solid and dealt well with the rare Chesterfield attacks. Tom Owen then had a shot from close range deflected over the bar before the first half came to an end at 0-0 but on the chances created, York should really have been out of sight.
In the second half Chesterfield began to make more chances of their own, however none of these really troubled the York keeper Ben White. Unlike the first half, the game was now much more even and was a real battle for both teams. York had another penalty appeal turned down when Arran Hudson drove in to the penalty box and just as he was about to shoot, a sliding challenge came in from a Chesterfield defender. It seemed as though the defender had not made contact with the ball, but brought Hudson down, however once again the referee waved away the appeal from the York players. With the match approaching it's conclusion, both sides were pressing to try and get the one goal that could win it. Neither team could create a real clear cut opportunity and once Rob Moncur had an attempted lob gathered just under the bar by the keeper, the game came to a close with both sides unable to break the deadlock.
It was another good clean sheet against a strong Chesterfield side , and although pleased with their performance York came away feeling the three points should have been theirs. Next week sees the Youth Team face Lincoln at home and they will be hoping for another positive result to carry on the good start to the season.Copyright © 2011 York City Football Club Youth Team
