York came into the game against Doncaster full of confidence on the back of four straight wins in league and cup. York made one change from the side that beat Grimsby seven days earlier, with Mike Atkinson replacing Danny Middleton in the midfield. York again started the game much the better side and piled the pressure on the Doncaster defence. Charlie Binns had an effort from outside the area saved by the keeper and a shot go wide in quick succession. Despite the pressure, York found it hard to create a real goal scoring opportunity and were mostly limited to shots from distance for the first half an hour. The York defence has been very consistent this season so far and they continued their great form in this match, dealing with the rare Doncaster attacks expertly. The closest York came to a goal in the first half, was when Tom Platt hit the crossbar with a thumping volley from the left of the penalty area.

After being completely dominated in the first half, Doncaster came out with much more urgency in the second half, and York were now in a real battle having failed to score in the first 45 minutes. With the game evenly poised at 0-0, both sides were now creating chances, however it was Doncaster who were gifted a golden chance when the referee awarded a dubious penalty for a foul on the Doncaster striker. From the spot kick, York keeper Ben White expertly saved down to his right, to keep the score at 0-0. It was an excellent save, and it proved to be the turning point in the game, as York now started to come back into the game once again. Reece Kelly had a shot hit the side netting after a great cross from Ben Weir, and White made another great save when one on one with the Doncaster striker. It looked as though the game was heading for a draw, when York substitute Danny Middleton stole all three points with a superb deft finish. Some good build up play saw Tom Owen lay the ball to Platt who took the ball on towards the Rovers goal. Middleton then made a great run in between the two centre backs. He collected the through ball and superbly chipped it out of the keeper’s reach and into the net. York then saw out the remaining time to secure their third straight league win.

Another great team performance by the Youth Team and they will now look to extend this winning run when they travel to Scunthorpe next week. A win there, will provide perfect preparation for the Youth Cup game a week on Tuesday.
