On the back of a great midweek win in the FA Youth Cup against Prescot Cables, the Youth Team faced another tough game on Saturday against top of the league Hull City. The game started off evenly, with the sides using contrasting tactics, with York playing passing football, and Hull favouring the long balls. Both sides were creating chances and most notably for York was Arran Hudson’s effort which went over the bar. Reece Kelly and Charlie Binns also had shots go wide. Hull were looking to hit York on the counter attack, but once again York’s unchanged defence of Arran Hudson, Ben Newbould, George Foster-Vigors and Tom Allan looked solid. Foster Vigors then had a header go over the bar and Tom Platt saw the same result with a free kick. Ben White pulled off some good saves in the York goal, and the game was still in the balance at half time.

Hull came out in the second half with more purpose and started to put York under more pressure forcing a large number of corners, however they could not capitalise on these. As both teams went in search of the goal that could seal all three points, the match completely opened up and was now an end to end contest. Binns had a thumping shot from the edge area well saved by the Hull keeper and he also kept his team in the game with a smart save from a Platt effort. At the other end, Foster-Vigors made two crucial last ditch challenges in quick succession to deny the Hull striker. Both sides pushed hard till the end for a winner, but could not find the final finish to settle the game. It was a great contest, in which both sides had chances to snatch the points. however we were slightly disappointed not to take all three points.

The Youth Team now face Macclesfield Town in the 1st round of FA Youth Cup on Wednesday night at Bootham Crescent, looking for another win to keep the cup run going.
