The Youth Team's 3rd game of the new season was another home match against Lincoln City who came to the Wigginton training ground having won their first two games of the season. The pattern for the first half was set when Lincoln won the toss and elected to kick with the strong wind at their backs. York again started well with some nice football being played but Lincoln tried to use the long ball and wind to their advantage. Although playing good football York were finding it hard to create goal scoring opportunities but at the back, the defence was solid and never troubled in the whole of the first half. York's first good chance of the game came when Charlie Binns played a great through ball between the Linclon left back and centre back for Arran Hudson to run on to. Hudson then took the ball inside the box but shot just wide of the left post from 15 yards out. With half time approaching, Rob Moncur ran onto a through ball, and was one on one with the keeper. The Lincoln keeper came rushing out of his penalty area and Moncur took a touch round the keeper but before he could put the ball in the back of the net, the keeper grabbed onto Moncur's leg and tripped him just outside the area. It looked as though the keeper was the last man and should have been sent off. However the referee believed there were covering defenders behind the keeper and gave him just a yellow card. The first half came to a close at 0-0 with York well on top.

The second half started with much the same style with York starting to play more good football and dealing well with any Linclon attack. Unlike the York defenders, the Linclon defence was not dealing well with York keeper Ben White's goal kicks with the wind behind him. The deadlock was finally broken around the hour mark as a result of one of these kicks. White sent a high kick down field, which was missed by the Linclon centre back. Rob Moncur collected the ball behind the defence and closed on goal. He took the ball into the area and with perfect timing, slotted the ball through the keeper's legs and into the net. It was a great finish and put York into the lead.

After the goal, Lincoln started to attack more and to play better football . However, they were finding it very hard to break down the solid York back four. As with previous games the defending was outstanding and York saw the game out to win 1-0. This result puts the Youth Team top of the league after three games and they are yet to concede a league goal. Another great result and a fantastic start to the season. Next Saturday the Youth Team face Bradford away and will be looking for another win to stay at the top of the league.
