With the game against Notts County being the last before a 3 week Christmas break, the Youth Team travelled to Nottingham looking for a win to set them up for a good run in the New Year. On the back of a very positive performance against Darlington last time out, York came into this match with confidence. They made a very good start to the game, and were playing well and creating chances from the off. Their dominance paid early on when after some great play down the right by Reece Kelly, Rob Moncur converted the wingers cross expertly from inside the box. York were looking very comfortable with their lead, but against the run of play, Notts County got themselves back into the game. The ball bounced up on the edge of the York penalty area, and a good strike from the County player, saw the ball beat Tom Guildford in the York goal. This goal then gave the Notts side extra confidence, and they started to come back into the game. The match was now evenly poised with both sides trying hard to get themselves in front, but half time came with the score at 1-1.

The second half started in the worst possible way for York, as after just a few minutes of the restart, York found themselves behind after a long throw in inadvertently went in off the head of a York defender. York did not deserve to be behind in this game and definitely not under those circumstances. As a result of this injustice, they fought hard to get themselves back on level terms, and they got their reward with 15 minutes left. In a similar fashion to the County first goal, the ball bounced up to Tom Platt on the edge of the County area, and he struck the ball out of the reach of the keeper and into the net. Now back on level terms, York pushed for the winner that they probably deserved, and the thought they had it with just minutes left, when the ball was pulled back to Moncur, but the striker’s shot cannoned off the crossbar.

That proved to be the last chance of the game and it finished 2-2.
