On the back of two league defeats, the Youth Team came into the game against Notts County looking for a positive performance to get back to winning ways. York started the game playing into the wind but despite this started the better of the two teams. York moved the ball well from the start and put Notts County on the back foot. There were a few half chances early on but both sides found it hard to create good openings. Ben White was rarely called upon in the York goal and had no saves to make. Tom Platt broke the deadlock midway through the first half when he played a one-two with Rob Moncur received the ball back and struck it past the keeper from outside the area. It was not long before York doubled their lead when Platt won the ball in midfield, slipped it through to York striker Moncur who ran on and deftly chipped it over the onrushing keeper. The York defence of Arran Hudson ,Ben Newbould,George Foster-Vigors,Tom Allan, again looked very solid and were never troubled in the first half.

Notts County came out with more purpose in the second half but still found it hard to really trouble the York defence who dealt with any attack very efficiently. York continued to create chances at the other end and were a constant threat on the Notts County goal. After a number of missed chances, York finally got their deserved third goal. Vinnie Dhesi played the ball to Reece Kelly on the right hand side who in turn beat his man with ease. A perfect cross to the back post was headed home expertly by substitute Danny Middleton. The third goal put the game to bed and there was no way back for Notts.

This was a great result and a very competent performance from the whole team. Three great goals and a fully deserved three points for York. This result will provide confidence going into the FA Youth Cup game against Newton Aycliffe on Wednesday night.
